Do you hate #passwords as much as I do?
Can't we have public key #authentication everywhere? Like in my #email client?

Yes we can! Without #authkeys!

Because #tls supports not just #server side #certificates , but also the client can be verified.

My #dovecot now logs me in without a password […]

How much does a screenshot of some text weigh?

5kiB? 50kB?

But not this one.

I wanted to store an article for future reference and it was a crazy 500kiB!
And there's nothing in it!

What's the answer to this riddle? Follow this thread to find out […]

I tried @slint again. For real.
Hey, I can finally write #gui apps in #rust ! It's like QML, just without C++ to Rust conversion difficulties. All right!

No tearing my hair out!

...unless I want to modify data in a table. Just not possible in a generic way.
Sadly, most GUI apps I write because […]

Do you like #emoji ? Those modern #hieroglyphics ?

Emoticons were fine, thak you.
Can we have a UTF variant that doesn't recognize emoji code points?

A lot of emojis are already covered by hieroglyphics, so it can be a learning experience at the same time. Some examples:
𓂬 - approval
𓂸 - […]

See this? That's because of #slop .

You know, turbocharged #spam .

How do people deal with spam? By closing up. Your ID please. Phone number please. Relegating trust to government.

Open source projects and small forums never did that […]

Does anyone here know #linux mount namespaces well?

I need to #ssh to an old phone supporting only #rsa but I don't want a huge #container .

When I override /etc/ssh_config in a namespace to add rsa, that file is not owned by root and ssh exits...

Slides from my #wayland input method presentation are up now!

https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/MVVELP-wayland_input_method_wrap_up/

I'm impressed by the new activity on input methods! Is that the usual post-talk excitement, or will things switch to a new gear?
We'll know in a week or so […]

Are #browser #cookies ethical? Do cookie makers even think about the consequences?

The ones dispensed by the #firefox cookie van are not #vegan . Just a crumb of evidence.

#mastodon advice:
subscribe to hashtags!
I now have a dedicated, temporary FOSDEM column.
Search for #fosdem , click the little arrows on top, add "pin".
Works with the advanced interface.

A port on #localhost open only to one process. Can #linux #network namespaces help me?

Let's find out.

The idea is to MitM between my IMAP server and Claws Mail. The proxy would ignore the password and instead use #tls with a client #certificate to authenticate me (mTLS style).

This way […]

Is anyone using a #mft #camera here?

How sharp is the LUMIX 12-60mm lens at full zoom?
I couldn't find any RAW files online :/

I'm not sure if 12-60 is enough or I should get the heavier, more expensive 14-140mm.

For comparison, this is a minilally processed #raw file from my previous camera […]
