@dcward7teacher.bsky.social
President of the Washington Teachers Union. I am a DCPS teacher of the Woodson Warriors, WTU Secretary and Co-chair of the DC Caucus of Rank and File Educators (DC-CORE).
Morning walk on the Anacostia watching a LOT of what appear to be National Guard being bussed in to pick up trash. I guess I prefer this over the military checkpoint harassment zones. But this is ridiculous. All in the name of a creeping fascist occupation. #FreeDC

Wow this mini week has been a true whirlwind. Three days in and we’ve already started directly attacking major systemic issues that have gone unadressed for too long. This work will not be easy, but I know we have the team and membership to do it and I am honored to havee this opportunity to lead. ✊

Wow this first day of my Presidency in the Washington Teachers' Union really got away from me! Busy busy. Here I am heading out with the only decoration I brought in to start. I’m still me despite it all. 😂

My classroom at H.D. Woodson has been cleared out. Keys are turned in. I have been in the new building since it opened (as well as the original Tower of Power and interim building). I have been in 5 different classrooms. It has been real. Can’t wait to visit in my new role. ✊

So proud of H.D. Woodson #ClassOf2025 I couldn’t have asked for a more curious, caring and informed group of students. Honestly I expect great things from them. (Also I taught 4 siblings of past alumni, which was awesome.)

Ding dong THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!!! Don't let the door hit you on the way out. And we WILL hunt down any more of your influence and root it out, don't you worry. This isn't over.

A few pictures from an amazing HD Woodson prom last night. Rarely has a class so truly lived up to the hype. They were beyond curious, well read, opinionated and very personable. I had such an easy time with them and that is a testament to everyone who taught them prior. More pics are on my Facebook

We’ll be back! @mayorbowser.bsky.social and the DC Council - you had better not cut back on the wages for ANY WORKER. Solidarity Forever. ✊ #MayDay2025

Spent today camped in Senator Rosen’s office. It was coming down to the wire but we did emerge with confirmation on a NO to cloture and the CR. Glad to see them on the right side of history.

Last week and this week my students have been prepping their 1st amendment mock court case with volunteer lawyers so that they can argue their case in front of District Court Judges this Friday.

Thank you for all those who came out to protest DCPS silence and demand clear policies that protect ALL our students. Below is my testimony to that effect.

Truth to power never stops - Hope those in the office are speaking up.

Why was this question dismissed? Disappointed in DCPS. Not surprised. But continually disappointed.
February 14, 2025 at 2:09 PM
I am so proud of my fellow educators who are posting similar questions over and over and refusing to let up. The only one that DCPS appears to have approved so far:

Think the DCPS Chancellor will answer? Or that it will even be posted? I won't hold my breath. Especially after the opening statement regarding Federal Regulations is "I don't have all the answers or next steps" and nothing about what we are doing to prepare to protect our school communities.

I’ve built up quite the reputation for myself. This is a student who graduated in 2017. I love my students and alumni soooo much. 🥰

Had a lovely low key DC day for my birthday: reading in bed, hilarious Pusheen gifts from someone who knows me all too well, Zekes, Hirshorn, Baked and Wired for the best cupcake (strawberry!) and picked up my favorite pizza on the way home. Then an impromptu fancy art outing. 🥰

It took almost two hours to see my senior student wrestle (something I’ve never seen before) but it was worth it. He’s very good at what he does! Let’s go warriors! 16-2 for his round. Then another one of my seniors got to do an exhibition game and she won as well. 🙌

I’ve gotten out of the habit of a lazy weekend morning and I forgot how nice it is to have my puppy, my book, my coffee and my space heater to just chill. Princess also joined us for a while from on high.
November 16, 2024 at 2:51 PM
To make myself feel better after a tough day yesterday I planned my entire outfit for work today around my Pusheen Loaf sweatshirt 😂 it appears princess approves.
