In another "logistics really are incredible" moment our copies of @ckunzelman.bsky.social's new book arrived in Australia a week ahead of schedule

Finished Glass Hotel last night. Clearly the outer limits of what has become Mandel's "house style" of emotional time-skipping as a structuring device, I'm left with the story at once resolved and unresolved - far more complete than The Singer's Gun but nowhere near as cohesive as Station Eleven.

Emily St John Mandel has *such* a gnack for writing slightly unlikeable but otherwise seemingly intelligent characters. She does a great job of getting beneath Melodrama with single sentences.

IT Welcome To Derry does a thing with it's first episode ending that is the most a writer has ever thought "I'm either gonna get fired and blacklisted forever" or "they'll call me the coolest sexier one in the game" - jury is still out for me, but well done Fuchs, Del Carmen and Steve

So excited to finally have my hands on @lostincult.co.uk's amazing work!! Against all odds they arrived in Australia and will now consume the next month of my life. Vital and exciting to have physical books in a time when context is algorithmically defined. Shout out Roxy who packed my order 🫶

My buddy James sent me this delicious mock up for our book product imagery for Under Ink - which got me thinking, what else would you change when shopping online for physical books?

This is one of my favourite pieces ever (it's the accent piece in my flat). I have and do stare at this art for hours. Nighthawks is a subtle yet elemental in portraying the inarticulable loneliness that arrives with proximity and these credulous fuckers are like "what if google street view"

Largest cultural issue on Booktok right now is that words have been abandoned.

Just per-ordered my copy of @ckunzelman.bsky.social's new book - seems like the best way to per-order in Australia was via Booktopia, not sure if these preorders are counted via the bald devil's website or UoM Press

The hands turn to Gibson o'clock, and spoilers, Neuromancer is still good! You should read it and you should listen to the very good podcast Shelved By Genre over at @rangedtouch.bsky.social where three very technical boys will talk about book, and you love book!

The loud "Marvel is back" sentiment over the Daredevil Born Again trailer continues to broaden my concern that we are only capable of litigating art through not actual merit, but perceived potential reception.

Not even popularity, but this amorphous "is this what the culture wants" vague gesture.

"Hey David you mentioned you had Democracy in your notes, what did you want to say there?"
Me: "Uhhhhhh..... The West Wing? It goes both ways? Airports?"

If one of your resolutions is to read more books, this is my debut science fantasy novel, once pitched to my agent as:

"Steampunk political intrigue but also pirates are here"

"What if Pullman wrote Dark Materials without god in it"

And

"C'mon Cam, at least read the blurb, please dude"

I just had to try and explain the cave to a 9 year old. At the end they asked if we could go visit. Checks out.
