Honestly, a lot of stuff I do read (and listen to) likely wouldn't be available at all without digital distribution.

It's a double whammy of my local bookshop only has the space to dedicate two bookshelves to horror, but almost the entirety of one of those bookshelves is full of Stephen King.

I don't think I missed your point at all, I was adding an additional perspective to it.

That's such a weird assumption to make against somebody agreeing with you.

To be fair, in most video games with stories, your actions only impact is on whether or not you finish the story. That's not a particularly good metric for whether something is or is not a passive activity.

Also, within the context of a textbook, the types of visuals you're mostly going to want are photographs, diagrams, and graphs. Those are hardly the things you want to generate on the fly, and those generations are useless as placeholders during layout because they're not blatantly obvious to remove

How would it speed up info gathering? In addition to adding querying the AI for information, you still have to do all the same research work you were doing before to vet every piece of "info" the AI gave you.

Competent manual input and review would also produce better results without AI being involved at all.

Is this one of those the link was in the brain all along deals and the dude's just running a scam shop to get you to admit what was already there?

Part of the issue is that it doesn't reduce labour across the board, but rather labour in desirable jobs specifically.

The machine can do that writing for you, you need to use your free time from being relieved of your writing job so you can focus on being a roofer.

That's an interesting discussion, because NFTs did have an inherent value: it allowed a subset of people to separate other people from their money.

AI does have a use value, but that use value is primarily in making people unemployed. For the general population, that's a bad use value.

There's not exactly a good alternative at scale. A lot of games will be failures without Steam whether or not Steam exists. This is like wishing to see more people fail.

There should probably be a better way for marketplaces to be set up, but banning marketplaces period isn't it.

Some rogue lites have that build setup of runs being random, but in between runs you can buy permanent upgrades. Rogue Legacy immediately comes to mind, but Splatoon 3: Side Order has a neat additional upgrade allowing you to turn off the other upgrades at will.

Rebelliousness for the sake of rebelliousness is always going to peter out because it's unsustainable, but if we can get enough people behind the same goal and build the community support people need to participate, we might get something done.

I feel like an interesting aspect of this is that a lot of people who talk about taking down the system rarely come in from the angle of setting up a new system that is better. More often than not, it's expressed as dissatisfaction with position on the status quo instead of actual desire for change.
