Having been First Lady in the past (and complaining bitterly to her friends about the obligations) she should have refused the part this time, rather than pretending to go along while not participating. Things need to change in the expectations of the spouses, but this is not the way.

I agree with you that the humanitarian projects are good, and that paving the rose garden is awful, but if a woman doesn't want to be an appendage to her husband she shouldn't have to be. Maybe she should have left him when he was elected. She obviously hates the "job".
