Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Very relevant to our current situation. And Colton Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad. A great reminder of America’s dark past.

For a serious (with one fantastic element for storytelling) novel telling the story of one enslaved young woman and her journey into freedom, I recommend Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad.
