For my 1000th Blue sky post, how about some snowliage ❄️🍁

Just kidding. Here's one picture of my autumn latte, full of empathic effort and moral signals. In all seriousness, sitting and talking about ideas over coffee is what got me into moral psych as an undergrad. Team science, with a couple extra shots of philosophy, is where it's at.

Kudos to @byrdnick.com for an excellent talk on cognitive reasoning, philosophical thought experiments, and public-focused decision-making for the Consortium on Moral Decision-Making. Much food for thought, see the video on the Consortium website.

2nd annual EMP Lab hike to David's Vista on Jackson Trail in Rothrock State Forest. One of the best vistas near Penn State. Catching the fade of the foliage with many members of our amazing team!

It wouldn't be a fall season on Penn State's campus without a visit to the bright orange sugar maples in front of Old Botany. A little post peak. But beautiful all the same

I had a wonderful visit to UVA for their Social Psychology Speaker Series. It was great to reconnect with folks from my time at UNC and Iowa, chat with the faculty and students about empathic AI. The sense of history brings me back to my time growing up as a Virginian, which I'll always appreciate.

Although most of my photos right now are of State College autumn, here's Happy Valley from the sky this August. It was awe-inspiring to get this view.

So, come join us here! I'll be recruiting a graduate student to the Empathy & Moral Psychology (EMP) Lab during this cycle, to start in fall 2026.

On Saturday we walked through the rail tunnel at Poe Paddy State Park and made a right down the path, instead of going straight on the rail trail. And we discovered magic of autumn in the water

An EMP Lab congrats to @farvk.bsky.social for defending his masters thesis today, about moral outrage and information-seeking! On National Coffee Day, a coffee and curiously outraged toast!
