I've got the original people of my planet Kelaris (the Sanngo and the Chimochi). I've got a city of mages, and mysterious crater in the southern continent of Sorrhea and a young girl whose visions will point towards her destiny

That was mostly true for me with the Ratliff father & Rick (Chelsea's boyfriend). & the drama between Lochlan & Saxon was totally shocking for me. I also felt for Gaitok, who seemed so passive until the very end. But I still enjoyed the storyline & I'll be watching when they come back around again

Even The Conclave, Emilia Perez, Dune and Wicked felt like more solid Oscar choices. (I know no one asked me). But Anora was a solid film and the actors definitely gave convincing performances. So those are my thoughts.

For me, The Substance had a greater emotional impact for a number of reasons.

I enjoyed the film, although I wished there had been a bit more of an emotional connection between Ani & Ivan before things went belly up. But I wouldn't have nominated this film for an Oscar versus the others I watched. +

Of course when Ivan's parents (rich Russian oligarchs) find out that their son is legally married, the move quick-fast to put an end to the shenanigans. Some comedy ensues as their bodyguards subdue Ani & they all go searching for Ivan, resulting in a somber realization. +

For me, this film was about two young ppl in their 20s who got caught up in a season of lust, wanting to escape some very real problems from their lives & clinging to each other, not knowing understanding that they had no foundation upon which to build a solid relationship. +

lots of controversy surrounding it. I didn't know that Ani was an exotic dancer/sex worker until the opening scene. Which didn't bother me. But I later saw people saying that the film was about sex workers & I didn't take it in that way. +

I have one large tattoo that I got after a very trying time. I might get a couple more. Haven't decided yet.

You're absolutely right. I'm still so very embarrassed and disturbed by this whole display!
