Conservatives in a couple years: Transformers must stick to what they were at the time of manufacturing. What does it say on their door placard? Car or robot?

The thing we always lack is parent involvement, parent communication, and mostly parents valuing what their child does everyday at school.

What we teachers do is extremely difficult and requires years of specialized training. The district in which I work is viewed statewide as a “bad” district, but next year my daughter will have a couple teachers at her middle school that have doctorates. The passion and training is everywhere.

It’s so frustrating hearing the dialogue about anything to do with education and never really see the finger for why schools are “failing” pointed at the parents. If our schools are to turn around at all, there has to be a shift from the general American public in how they view public education.

But in my 15 years of teaching, I’ve noticed that American parents by and large do not value a good education for their child. Teachers are seen as overpaid baby-sitters in their view. In my time teaching overseas, parents from other countries treated me, their child’s teacher, with so much respect.

But even pointing fingers at parents is over-simplistic. Parents often are just barely making ends meet and are working sometimes 2-3 jobs and can’t meet the obligations of helping with homework and making sure their child is valuing their education.

I’m a teacher. I often hear from people about schools that they are failing, which yeah I would agree. They are. But the why of it is, to me, constantly attributed to the wrong thing. Schools are failing not due to teachers, not administrators, not facilities. Schools are failing due to parents.
