Gustav Mahler, BTD 1860. Gravely ill and heartbroken, you can hear the anguish in the opening Adagio of his unfinished Symphony No. 10 - almost as if it heralds the drama and beauty of the upcoming Golden Era of film music.

“But this is Mahler we’re talking about”

Of his "Chariots of Fire" theme, he once said "It's only another piece of music." Many beg to differ. Enjoy this lovely gem from his "Bitter Moon" (1992) score where he masterfully channeled Debussy. RIP Maestro Vangelis.

Say Boldog Születésnapot (Happy Birthday) to one of the greats, Miklós Rózsa BTD - then treat yourself to one of his best scores — Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982). May melody never die.

Happy Birthday John Williams. Your score (with Stomu Yamashta) for Robert Altman's "Images" (1972) is stunning, and surely got a wink from Jerry Goldsmith.

How about a little Soulfire version of our theme in honor of today's guest — and pick up his book, it's fantastic...@TheMoviesMadeMe @TrailersFromHel

As a young punk rock drummer on stages and in studios, my only dream was to be as steady and solid as the legendary Charlie Watts — the human metronome. Rest in peace dear soul. Your beats carry on.

It was too much fun smashing our theme into punk submission in honor of today's guest Jello Biafra! @TheMoviesMadeMe

Jerry's final score was for @joe_dante's "Looney Tunes: Back In Action". He channeled Stravinsky, Herrmann, Stalling, and himself of course. Deluxe edition released today. Track 31 is a gem. .

What? A chance to DEVO-ize the theme music for today's episode of @TheMoviesMadeMe? Yes, please...with a giddy tip of the energy dome to Gerald Casale (and Edvard Grieg, of course).

Here's a little Halloween mix of the @TheMoviesMadeMe theme song - with a tip of the hat to Mr. Grieg and Mr. Carpenter. Protect yourself and others out there! @joe_dante @joshuarolson

Hugo Friedhofer to William Wyler: “Well, Willy, it’s none of my business, but I think that Aaron’s main title was probably more apt and more fitting, and I’m sorry you did it, but that’s your business." Copland won Best Score despite the overture swap:

On today's pod with @gjbarker, @joe_dante mentions *Under Fire* (1983) as one of Jerry Goldsmith's best scores. He's absolutely right. Here's a mix metered taste (and yes, that's Pat Metheny on guitar):

It's time for a full refund on 2020. RIP beloved maestro MORRICONE. His haunting cue (Fantasma) from *A Quiet Place In The Country * could be the theme for current times. Grazie di tutto.

Happy Birthday Bernard Herrmann—born this day 1911. Here's a dose of his hypnotic chromaticism via 2 theremins, 2 hammond organs and well, some backmasking too.

Mahler died this day 1911. This cottage on the shores of Attersee Lake is where he finished the final movement of No. 2. Perhaps he needed a place like this to broaden his theme of *transcendent renewal*. Bereite dich zu leben! (prepare yourself to live)

In THE KING'S SPEECH (2010), Beethoven's 7th (Mvt. 2) was a perfect choice. Perhaps the rhythmic repetition of the strings contrasts what the King hears in his head vs what needs to be spoken. Brilliant.

Revisited Scorcese's Taxi Driver. It's easy to discuss Herrmann's beautiful sax solos (performed by the great Tom Scott), but in this latest viewing, it was those dissonant brass swells and irregular drum beats that laid bare the raw instability of De Niro's character.

Happy Birthday Gustav Mahler. Born this day 1860. Your music has certainly influenced many film scores. Here's the *Adagietto* from Symphony 5. It will sound familiar (even if it isn't). Portrait by Laura van den Hengel.

Special thanks to @WestlakePro, @SynthaxAudio and @RME_Americas for the Digiface Dante prize! The workshop on audio networking was chock full of valuable information. Can't wait to get this integrated into the studio—whew, I'm glad I took good notes...

RIP André Previn. *Versatile* doesn't begin to describe your talents. Here's a cue from Dead Ringer (1964) that must have gotten a wink or two from the likes of Stravinsky and Goldsmith.

"Melody is a mistress to whom I'll always be faithful". RIP Michel Legrand. You left us many treasures. Here's just one—the score to Ice Station Zebra.

Happy Birthday @joe_dante! To celebrate the day, here's a bit of Jerry Goldsmith's magnificent score to *Matinee*.
