Old brick needs the correct mortar. Cement based mortars are too hard, making the brick the sacrificial element in the wall, causing the face of the brick to spall. Captured here in a wall that has seen repointing at the lower elevation. #historicrenovation

Needed to smash something to relieve stress so in the latest episode of the world's slowest kitchen remodel the funky painted MDF counter was violently removed and a piece of laminate that I had fit perfectly. And throw back to where it started to remind myself there's always hope. #thegreencolonial

Trying to post one positive thing a week so this hellscape doesn't steal my joy. #thegreencolonial got an upgrade to a Miele induction cooktop lately. Used the last of my secondhand cabinets for the base, face frame was solid, box was trash so I turned scrap wood into what I needed. #oldhouselove
