Where are the Celebration Police when you truly need them?

Unfortunately, Sweeney is a pretty astute GM, managing to keep them very competitive post 2011 Cup
(11/15 playoff seasons during his tenure), and drafting well.
Notables: McAvoy, Debrusk and Lohrei.
Zero chance that pick gets traded.

Source?
This has the stench of unsourced innuendo and rumour.

Unless he can put together a run of form and health for 40+ games, I think that window is already closed
December 18, 2025 at 11:51 PM
I would add further, that there are lots of bandwagon jumpers in this market, but also a VERY dedicated core fanbase.
Big if…PA/JR sat down and said “look, 2-3 years of pain, top 3 picks, plan is to contend with a sustained run of dominance”, 80% of core fans would be buy in.
December 18, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Yes, and have been passionate about this team since the 80’s.

What do you think Sherwood’s “fair market value” is, in today’s NHL?
Similar players have gone for a protected 1st, or 2nd & prospect at recent trade deadlines.

I agree, Nucks need 10 more guys like him…but paying him $4.5M/yr during a rebuild makes no sense.
December 18, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Yes, and the key here is avoiding short term “fixes” (the prototypical Canucks under FA ownership approach).
Patience, accumulation of draft picks, weaponize the cap.
Several top 3 picks in consecutive years are essential to build a legit contender
December 18, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Agree, great character guy, high energy, hits etc etc. Likely a good fit for a Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, etc

If you can get a late 1st & maybe a prospect from a team in win-now mode, that’s a win.
December 18, 2025 at 5:28 PM
I disagree. If they’re going to make lemonade from this horrible year, maximize prospects and 1st/2nd round picks.
Practice facility is a festering sore for 10yrs, and you’re not going to magically convince FA to commit $10M+ for a building he can’t make a single $ off
December 14, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Goodly morning gents!
Uninspired performance, but got the result and 3 points.

If you had to prioritize 2 incoming transfers in January to bolster the squad for the run-in, what would they be?
For me: young, speed demon winger/striker (raw, unfinished product); backup centre back
December 14, 2025 at 10:24 PM
NOT Elite 1C numbers in 2025
December 12, 2025 at 11:44 PM
This 100%, don’t trust JR/PA to do it properly though.
Likely another swing for the fences, quick fix scenario incoming
December 12, 2025 at 11:42 PM
You could argue they “went” early last season, never was elite (90% percentile) fast either.
His non-goals/assists “contributions” would drive coaches like Cooper, Maurice absolutely nuts. Tocchet tolerated it in ‘23-24 since he was producing offensively & team was winning
December 12, 2025 at 11:35 PM
The sad reality is we all know that FA only cares about attendance and beer sales, not the team contending for a Cup.
IF Nucks fans truly voiced their displeasure at Rogers (signs, chants, etc akin to European soccer) for FA to “sell the team”, he would happily have them banned for life.
December 12, 2025 at 11:32 PM
The D last year was too slow, and missing Hronek for 6wk didn’t help either.
This year, young, some growing pains sure, but M Peterson hasn’t been good enough either.
December 12, 2025 at 11:25 PM
I think this is part of it. I think he’s got a bit of reputation around the league: great if you’re winning, toxic bully if you’re not.
PLUS lots of years and $$ left on his contract. Only Drury and the NYR were willing to gamble on him replicating his ‘22-24 numbers.
Most other GM’s said NO THANKS
December 12, 2025 at 11:25 PM
As a Nucks fan, their immediate needs are 2C, 1st rounders.
A package of McMichael, 2026 1st, 2027 1st, and Hutson (with his pedigree/potential) likely gets the deal done.
December 12, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Sadly I’ve been saying this for 18 months
December 12, 2025 at 2:03 AM
This is for the opening Canada game in Toronto. Very reasonable 🙄
December 11, 2025 at 8:46 PM
Acquiring multiple mid to high 1st rd picks, trade all pending UFA’s, listen to reasonable offers on all core veterans.
Of course, knowing FA’s meddling and PA/JR’s record, none of this shall happen.
December 11, 2025 at 7:48 PM
McMichael, a 1st and Hutson (Lane’s little brother) would be an ok package, but likely not enough.
December 11, 2025 at 7:45 PM
It’s SFA or McIntosh. Both utterly dominant in their sports, and won meaningful championships/world records.
Vlad & McDavid not even close.
