Rey knows she’s a bargaining chip. What else can she be? She’s the eldest daughter of an Irish mobster passed his prime who offers her as part of a peace treaty. He will dismantle his operations on the west side of Manhattan, ending a century-old legacy. He will hand over his businesses – his strip clubs and brothels and gambling operations – to the Sollozzo family. In return, they will let him live. Out of gratitude, he will trade his daughter.

Beniamino Sollozzo . That is her future husband’s name. Rey doesn’t speak Italian but she was raised in Manhattan and she knows “bene” means good. She doubts Benjamin - as they call him - is good. Her full name is Róisín, which means “little rose” in Irish. Her mother chose it for patriotic reasons, but Rey prefers the metaphor; the promise of thorns beneath the petals.
