I just rewatched DD S1-2 and Defenders. Defenders was incredibly tough to get through. It was like if the Avengers movie had to have every side character ever introduced get screen time and have a part to play.

It spent years in development hell, it probably needed the projected # of units to make a modest profit. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a huge loss just due to how long it was in production.

"World's richest man loses video game fight against unwashed basement dweller" is a better headline.

I hate that this is our reality.

Horizon seems the most likely to work as a "live service" game if it were to basically be casual Monster Hunter. Even then, MH games all have a 2-3 yr shelf life where they just move on and abandon the current game with a true sequel.

I highly recommend it, it was great.
