I get it. I'm also learning it on duolingo. There's a reason for kanji though, and it's bc using only hiragana would make you not understand anything when they repeat since they don't use spaces between words.

On the same journey but I'm learning real slow by choice. Using duolingo which is not the best option. But any option is better than none!
