One reason is Medicare and Medicaid. For those of you who never worked in health care government run Medicare and Medicaid pay the hospitals from my experience roughly 40 cents on a dollar. If you doctor charges you 100 dollars they get paid 40 dollars give or take. Most hospitals are county run
