The Cape Otway Lighthouse was one of Australia’s most important historical lighthouses, aiding ships through the notorious “eye of the needle” between King Island and the mainland in the 1800’s. It was decommissioned in 1996 but still contains the mercury that the lens floats on.

These two pieces of land, found along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, were connected by an arched rock until 1990, when the section of rock collapsed into the sea. The structure was (and is) called “London Bridge”.

The black rocks that border Griffiths Island, VIC, Australia are collapsed lava tunnels. The island was formed by lava flows over 300,000 years ago.

The only gannet colony in the southern hemisphere that isn’t on a small island is near Portland, VIC, Australia. When the chicks reach about 3.5 months of age they fly away and don’t return for about 3 years.

Blue Lake, in Mt Gambier, SA, Australia. The color changes each year in March from this vivid blue to gray, and then changes back to blue in November.

The Beachport Jetty in Beachport, SA, Australia. 772 meters (2,536 feet) long, completed in 1882. It was originally supposed to be 1,200’ish meters (4,000 feet) long!
