There was a response to Reagan from below, though -- a massive wave of direct action and solidarity activism pushing back and trying to save what could be saved from Earth First!, ACT UP, Food Not Bombs, the Sanctuary Movement, anti-Apartheid activists, DIY punk rock, hip hop, etc. (6/)

Reagan appointed polluters to oversee the environment (Watt, Gorsuch). He appointed an EEOC head who opposed civil rights protections (Thomas). (2/)

Trump’s appointments are dangerous and worthy of attention. The strategy of theft through saboteur appointments, however, is nothing new. Reagan, from whom Trump plagiarized his slogan, was the gold standard, an almost immediate backlash to the many federal victories of ’30s-’60s era movements. (1/)
