I've read comic books my entire life and they've had superheroes in underpants with complex storylines all that time. I read Claremont X-men as a kid and loved the weirdness and the crossovers, read Watchmen when I was 12 and loved how forbidden it felt. I do think so yes!

Supposed to? According to whom? Comics have been WEIRD since they came out, have had interconnected storylines for 70 years+ years.

I get the issue, but also like... I think for a lot of people (Certainly me!) a lot of the fun of comics is the huge history of it. It feels mysterious and huge and complex and wonderful, in the same way I feel about, say Warhammer 40k. The complexity and weirdness can be an attraction to people!

Dragonlance: Huma and the Minotaur - Sure, a silly book, but it showed me that a writer can just make up a whole different world if they want to and make it just as real as ours.
