Bear in mind that the ACA (Obamacare) was the best they could get through Congress, and Republicans have been chipping away at it and trying to repeal it ever since it passed 15 years ago. /3

...so no control on charges exist. Vaccination is only "free" here because insurance companies are required to cover it with no copay (which means, no charge to the patient).

Well, I canceled my subscription to WaPo after Bezos pulled the editorial board's endorsement of Kamala, so unfortunately I couldn't read the entire article. I'm assuming the family decided not to sign up for health insurance, couldn't afford it, doesn't have Medicaid, etc. /1

Note: If you're getting free vaccines from Walgreens, CVS, Safeway, etc., it's because the ACA (Obamacare) requires insurance to cover all vaccinations with no copay. Many states (i.e., California) have public health clinics where uninsured kids and maybe adults can get vaccines.

History was effectively suppressed the entire time I was growing up during the 1950s and 1960s. I learned very little or nothing about slavery, lynchings, civil rights, internment camps, the holocaust, etc., aside from what I picked up watching the news and reading.
This all seems sadly familiar.
