The holy spring is surrounded by Atsushi Miyazaki Parkı, named for a Japanese man who came to do relief work after the 2011 Van earthquake, but was killed in an aftershock

In my neighborhood of Tarabya, Sarıyer, Istanbul, is this little house, inside which, apparently, is a holy spring dedicated to St Kyriaki, from Nicomedia (today İzmit) and martyred under Emperor Diocletian

I guess you mean the mos maiorum is being rejected; but that's to work damnatio memoriae, something I learned in 2008 from visiting this example, the Severan Bridge, missing the column dedicated to Severus's son Geta after his killing by his brother Caracalla (dedicatee of the remaining column)

I just posted this on Twitter (taken at the Jameh Mosque of Isfahan, Iran, September 1, 2012) as an example of the kind of idolatry that the US President-elect exhibits by selling a Bible with his name printed at the top of the cover

I visited Cyrus's Tomb on a day trip from Shiraz in 2012, when the Non-Aligned Movement had been meeting in Iran, and perhaps the posters were aimed mainly at the delegates.

I was summoned to the police station the next day; the authorities were worried about an international incident

The scene this afternoon at Kireçburnu, a.k.a. Κλειδὴς καὶ κλεῖθρα τοὺ Πόντου (“Lock and Key of the Pontus”), Sarıyer, Istanbul.

The three people sitting near the base of the beacon on the left were reading actual books.

"Lady, whose shrine stands on the promontory,
"Pray for all those who are in ships …"

Reading that in T. S. Eliot's "Dry Salvages" while living near the Bosphorus in Istanbul, I recall visiting the Church of Our Lady of Constantinople in Agropoli, Italy, ten years ago (June 17, 2013)
