I’d forgotten how good these albums by Ian Carr and Nucleus were. I played them till the grooves wore down at uni in the Seventies. Time to revisit them, starting with “Belladonna”. No labels required: jazz, fusion, prog rock… As Danny Thompson would have said, “Whatever”.

To London last night to see the Basie Orchestra. Last saw the band (with Basie at the piano) in 1978, when my brother and I borrowed our mother’s Hillman Avenger and drove down to the Montreux Jazz Festival.
