There are certainly worse places to spend a week writing …

In The National Archives to follow up a few references for a chapter — it’s been about 5 years since I last looked at CO records in person… nice wee sojourn and, as ever, pirates popping out the page even when it’s not what I’m looking for …

Well this place has gotten busier… Sorry if I haven’t followed back yet!

In the meantime, come hear me speak tomorrow 5.30pm UK at UofGlasgow as I try & condense a mere 350ish years of colonialism & fisheries law / management in c. 45 minutes!

Calling all PGRs interested in any aspect of port & maritime history!

Consider applying to be PG Rep for Liverpool’s Centre for Port and Maritime History. You could lead on reviving their wonderful PGR annual conference (ippmsn.wordpress.com). But you set your own agenda!

Any questions, just ask!

A fantastic day of brilliant papers at BCMH’s New Researchers conference yesterday. Such exciting research ongoing & can’t wait to hear the future outcomes. Thank you all who came to Glasgow to share, discuss, & listen!

Now taking a (thematic) breather by the harbour in Troon…

A solid display of maritime history books (😉) from Boydell & Brewer as we enter the main day of papers of BCMH’s New Researchers conference at the University of Strathclyde!

Number 8 done, think I’ve managed it…

Currently fumbling my way through Origin for the first time to make graphs for an article... 1 out of 8 nearly completed... It's sort of fun, but largely making it up as I go ... 🤷‍♂️

A very thoughtful (and positive!) review of Suppressing Piracy by Guy Chet in the latest IJMH.

“By focusing on the local circumstances and experience of life and of trade in the British Empire, Wilson provides a much-needed counterbalance to previous piracy studies…” 🏴‍☠️

Currently trying to finish an article connecting the past & present of fisheries management in Lake Malawi, & the lessons to be learned.

Possibly one of the hardest pieces of writing I’ve engaged in so rather than turning to the conclusion, I’ve instead made a timeline… It may or may not be clear…
