I get your point about "returning to some glorious past", but in terms of statistics, California, for instance, used to build something like "enough" housing:

It's about 1.5 times the population of Bend, but the same general size (not a Big City). Looks good to me!

I don't think anyone realistically expects this train to happen soon.
However, Bend has been good on housing lately. We have a very YIMBY mayor. Recently, I even got my picture taken with an illustrious visitor who was in town to celebrate some legislative housing wins

I got to see not one, but two housing projects that @bendyimby.bsky.social advocated for today.
A cottage cluster, as well as a larger apartment in a super central, walkable area. 2nd photo looks out from the 5th floor of that one.
Cottage clusters were made legal by HB 2001 several years back

I'm kind of biased, but I'm really happy with her work on housing. Frustratingly, due to the nature of that market, some results won't be seen or noticed for years. Sometimes real leadership involves doing the right thing even if there are not short term, splashy wins

I had a lot of fun handing out flags at our Bend #NoKings event yesterday. They were pretty cheap from the local Bi-Mart and people appreciated them. The number of flags at the event help show that the 'anti America' nonsense is just a dirty lie from Republicans
