Year in and year out, the most important fossil fuel lobbyists/actors at the COP are the Saudi delegation (including negotiators they’ve placed on other delegations).

remember folks, this is all fine and harmless because a single query sounds like not much energy or water use
Mind-blowing post detailing how xAI is not only building a massive new fossil fuelled power station for the second data centre to power X's Grok, it is doing it across state lines to avoid regulation

Remind me again how it's all fine bc a single query is small...

Totally agree with you on this. To be rigorous, just think we need to look at the full energy picture if we’re making efficiency arguments about vehicles. It’ll still come out very well for EVs (especially when the electricity source is renewables).

Does original fuel refer to the electricity or to the power source for the electricity? To be fair, I think you’d need to begin with the original ‘fuel’ for the electricity — where, of course, the type of electricity production also matters a lot.

Yes, but beware of the Jevons paradox (aka rebound effect)

Can you elaborate on that? Sincere request

I found the memo confusing and even self-contradictory. But the biggest takeaway is *don’t pay attention to emissions* — from someone who’s stoking increased emissions with data center growth!

I’m all for placing the same requirements on golf courses.

There are often times when some members of a community actively want bike lanes, more dense housing, low-income housing etc that are opposed by others.

Ultimately we’re not going to have a choice but to make DACs work. In the meantime, we need to do everything possible to squeeze fossils out (and support efforts to do so fairly).

How come I feel like we’re reliving the 1890s?

Parents are way more involved and protective than a generation ago - hence kids a bit more anxious and unsure of themselves at first.

Maybe still with cars, but the median voter thinks we should have cleaner, cheaper sources of electricity (plenty of polling data on that)

Yes, where’s the push on climate-flation??

Not to mention:
- the right to the best energy and transport systems available on the planet
- the right to sustainable food
- the right to less pollution, and
- the right to protection from climate harm.
