Thankyou. I was touched by your piece on Mary Bishop's artwork and her time/treatment at Netherne.
(The forced process of needing to "grieve properly" had a life-long impact on an elderly person I knew who disliked doll's eyes after being shown her dead mother at the age of three in 1918).

The actions surrounding the death of Mary Bishop's father on 27 May 1918 as found in the war diaries of 6th Northumberland Fusiliers. Padre George Bernard H Bishop is commemorated at the Soissons Memorial, France. Images include Strength of Battalion 1-31 May 1918 and Casualty List 27-30 May 1918.

There's a connection here to Leeds and the Special Collections at the University of Leeds - including the late Chris Sheppard, who was Head of Special Collections (and a thoroughly nice guy).

Shiver me timbers! Some worthy collectables and re-issues here among Sheila McCullagh's Griffin and Dragon Pirate Stories.

Afterthought: I'd assumed that CSB was a new build & built on the waste ground/car park opp. the Corn Exchange and behind the White Swan pub - but 'partly reworked' would make sense where existing infrastructure was strengthened or underpinned. I'll look for the 'joins' the next time I'm nearby.😉

Crown Street is an interesting one, provoking something of a mixed response since it was first built. It's only in recent months that I have come to see its appeal and architectural merit. I think much of this is owed to some of the recent improvements in the area. An altogether better ambience.

You're giving me some great ideas for meals here, Norma. Do you mind if I raid your timeline and nick a few of 'em! 😀
