Chap in the middle with the wee dog is my great great grandfather in Egypt in 1917. Second image was his postcard home at new year. He was a blacksmith in the army, and seems to have been in an artillery unit. Don't know if the dog made it back to Aberdeen (where that branch of the family is from).

Went to Dundee & the DCA today with the remarkable @fi-milligan-rennie.bsky.social to meet 100+ new filmakers from Blackness + Longhaugh primaries. All part of Screen Scotland's work to deliver "film + screen" as an expressive arts subject in Scottish schools. Lots of talent, and a full cinema!

I see this painting every morning, it's in our kitchen, and I love it. The colours, the individual shops, the whole feel for a time and place. Artist is David Toner, from Glasgow I believe, and sadly no longer with us...
