This moment’s health care emergency was created a generation ago. Ignoring this history now dooms us to repeat it in the future.

INVESTIGATION: American taxpayers already spent $6 billion to develop GLP-1 drugs, and then pharma lobbyists bought enough politicians to make sure drug companies were allowed to charge Americans the world’s highest prices for those drugs that we already paid for.

You’ve Already Paid $6 Billion For Weight-Loss Drugs You Can’t Afford
U.S. taxpayers spent billions developing Ozempic-type diabetes and weight-loss drugs — now those drugs’ markups could bankrupt the U.S. health care system.

Why Populism Is Now Centrism
Democratic strategists say the party needs to move to the center. This week’s election winners found it — but not where the party was looking.

People keep using elections to vote against the party that controls the White House at the time they’re casting their votes.
I know everyone feels the need to create exciting narratives to storify these elections — but thats the boring thing thats actually happening. People keep voting for change.

There's a theory that the Goldwater '64 to Reagan '80 timeline of the conservative movement is being reprised on the left as Bernie 2016 to ?? 2032 timeline.
If true, then AOC '18 & Zohran '25 are roughly Reagan's '66 & '70 Cali gubernatorials.
Not sure I buy the theory...but it's interesting.

I've spent my life advocating for a politics challenging oligarchy. It's been an unpleasant and difficult line of work, to say the least. So when I see the longtime opponents of this kind of politics suddenly appropriating it as their new "centrism," I'm happy.

If the amoral Democratic pundits, strategists and elites whose corporatism destroyed their party now feel they must save face by insisting that this kind of Bernie-style populism is the election-winning pragmatic moderate centrism that they love, then great. Welcome aboard. Better late than never.

It took 17 years to get Democrats back to this moment of opportunity.
The question after these election wins is whether the whole party will embrace the populism voters want - and whether Dems can learn the cautionary lessons about how their past leaders' post-election betrayals created a backlash.

tbh it’s still kinda amazing it took this much effort to defeat a disgraced nepo baby sex pest who gave his health care industry donors a get-out-of-jail-free card amid a pandemic massacre of his own constituents

Nobody is asking for Dem politicians to issue fawning statements about Dick Cheney.
Literally not one person is asking for that. Dems could just say nothing.
The fact that top Dems are instead issuing those laudatory statements is a deliberate middle finger to everyone harmed by Cheney.

My overall take on Dick Cheney is that any non-sociopath old enough to remember the aftermath of 9/11 knows that under absolutely no circumstances do you gotta hand it to Dick Cheney.

The reason oligarchs & the political/media class they own had a months-long elite freakout over @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is not because of any one of his policy proposals - but because his win would mean they no longer get to buy every election and control every political outcome.

Zohran Mamdani facing disgusting 9/11-themed attacks from Andrew Cuomo and criticism from billionaires at a Saudi conference — and then being elected mayor of NY on the same day Dick Cheney passes — is like the final redemption/karma/healing scene of a movie about this whole era
