Great article about the state of things, but I just cannot get over the San Diego erasure on display here.

Come on, people! It’s the actual second biggest city in the state!

I will never get used to people saying this, and with their real names! @nextdoorsv.bsky.social

And this here is the most Berkeley thing ever - the important thing about new apartments is how they look to me, homeowner who has to look at it but will never live inside of it.

If you are the wrong kind of tenant - the kind that can pay market rents - you do not matter, do not exist, and letting people build housing for you to live in actively makes the world a worse place.

That's what "nobody can afford these prices" means - if you can afford it, you are nobody.

At the Corridor Zoning worksession, seeing a lot of folks who won't be able to make this observation

I absolutely love the @berkeleyscanner.com, we are beyond lucky to have that kind of knowledgable, detailed reporting on public safety in our community. Most places don't have that.

But man that comment section...there are some wild things that happen in that comment section...

4 year old saw a version of this meme so I had to explain it to her, so I made up an example she could relate to, and it was, to put it mildly, a hit and so now you all get to share in it too

Reading through the correspondence for last night's planning commission meeting, there's some good stuff.

Jury's out on this one, frankly.

Apropos of nothing, the entire length of golden park, stretching from the park about a half mile into sunset, is about to have allow 9 story buildings (with density bonus). Pretty cool.

Ohhhhhhh yeah

Why ON EARTH is the vast majority of policy research presented in this and only this format?? It is 2025! What is wrong with people!
August 20, 2025 at 1:03 AM
Well would you look at that

Gannett is sitting right there!

It’s a public company, worth a half a billion. A rich person or group of rich people could just buy it and then you own papers in all of these places.

To answer that you need to look at why certain units are vacant, then you get the answer - it either makes absolutely zero sense, or it would involve literally stealing homes from people who own them and forcing them to house the homeless.

I understand why people believe that stuff - this comes from one of the most egregious parts of the whole story, which, more on that later. But it's just not true, the misconception is both insulting to professional staff toxic to our civic culture.
