More to come as this has many implications for police and other first responders.

Thank you to my co-presenter Jonathon Boyd for bringing a police perspective into this work!

🌐 Lots of work to still do in this area but the traditional idea of weekly treatment doesn’t have to stay. If someone breaks their leg, it is easily possible to take a few weeks off to have surgery or to heal. Why can’t we think about mental health in a similar matter?
October 18, 2023 at 2:05 PM
🔍 Did you know that police are about twice as likely to develop PTSD compared to civilians due to exposure to traumatic events?

🚓 Weekly treatment doesn't work for everyone – there are too many barriers like scheduling issues, choosing between making money or losing money, being called out, etc.

We couldn’t do this at the Strong Star Training Initiative without support from the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the Gavin Farrell Foundation!

Yes!

I think there could be a few models that would work if well thought out. And that might even be multiple streams. I think the large issues brought up here are important to our field to consider. Implementation would still probably be rough 😂😭. This is something to tackle though.
October 2, 2023 at 12:10 AM
You got to this before me. I agree this would probably happen to - at least over time.
October 2, 2023 at 12:03 AM
I think there’s room for a variety of models that would be beneficial. I’m not sure I’m sold on removing internship totally just yet. I also really think the current form is not the right way to do it.
October 1, 2023 at 11:53 PM
I think that depends on how clinical psychology is defined then? I think there are lots of people doing amazing work on psychopathology and intervention that haven’t done clinical work. I think there is added value to the clinical piece including the internship level hours as well.

Hiii!

This is what I worry about. I actually think the experience is really critical for our field. Now, that doesn’t mean the current system is the right version…
October 1, 2023 at 11:32 PM
Woo - thank you! I’m slowly moving over and getting active :)
