Meant to say “adults”, not “parents”.

I never said GAC helps parents. In fact, I think the whole field is an utter shitshow. It’s only now starting to come to light just how much.

No, actually, I’m arguing that we shouldn’t be doing medical experiments on *children*, whether approved by their parents or not, because the evidence for efficacy has become so suspect. Perhaps engage with what I said rather than what you’ve imagined I said.

I agree. Republicans don’t give a shit about women and children. Which is why it’s so depressing so see so-called progressives throw them under the bus as well.

Guess you haven’t read the UK Cass report or more recent Canadian research that concludes the evidence for the use of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones in children and teens identifying as transgender is of such low certainty that it’s impossible to conclude whether the drugs help or harm.

Lawmakers—not just conservatives—tell parents and esp. children what to do all the time. According to your logic, if a 12-y/o girl and her parents decided that she should be married to a 50-y/o relative, the gov’t should just “stay the fuck out” of that decision? No, didn’t think so.

Read the very first line of that report. The. Very. First. Line.

Ta ta! 👋

Looking forward to Scientific American returning to, you know, actual *science*.

I use the term “true atheist” to denote someone who’s made the intellectual decision to disbelieve in God (and, indeed, all gods) because of an utter lack of evidence in support of such a being. That’s what atheism is, no more, no less. If that’s not you, great. Good luck to you in your journey.

When you can say truthfully and with absolute wonder “Wow, I don’t need the god of my childhood any longer, I have better explanations”, THEN you’ll know you’re a true atheist.

No one makes a “sharp turn” into atheism following a “crisis” of faith. That’s not atheism. That’s anger or disillusionment. Atheism, true atheism, is a journey, a slow but methodical trek down a road of discovery that leads eventually to God/gods becoming *unnecessary*.
