The oldest ginkgo tree in North America, planted as a seedling in 1785, in Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia (with Art Sharon). 240 years old, it is young by ginkgo standards.There is a living tree in China reputed to be 3,000 years old. #Ginkgo #ginkgobiloba #Bartram’sGarden

Suddenly, swarms of butterflies, brilliantly colored orange Monarchs and yellow Swallowtails flit below us by the thousands in undulating skeins, headed north. They’re out in space beneath our mountaintop platform, each one so tiny we would have missed it. More in comments.

Sunday, April 14, the day before our scheduled start, we spread everything out on the floor of my apartment to make a “final cut” on the gear and determine who’ll carry what.
