![Comment on a Rod Dreher Blog post: One of the main reasons I read Rod's blog posts is that the "rush to abstraction" or "flight from actual thinking" that he reliably engages in whenever there's fresh media spectacle outrage that's posited as "bad for The Right" invites me to theorize the social dynamics of the lead-up to the coming North Atlantic civil wars. It's always some variation of
"this is the first step towards what I've been predicting the leftists / woke capital / BLM / Marxists [all contemporary variations on the bogeymen of protestant papo-masonophobia] are going to do to us right-wing deplorables!"
Yet, when you strip away the outrage take-ological interpretations and predictions in order to look at what actually just took place, you learn that someone who was engaged in (expressing support for) something that the right notionally condemns (racism, rioting, incitement to violence, fraud, murder, harassment, rape,...) got punished for doing just that. Or was part of a movement that is all about that (if you do believe QAnon gets banned everywhere for advocating small-government conservatism, give me a ring and let's talk about public infrastructure investment opportunities in Brooklyn). It's never right-wingers getting banned for being right-wingers as such. Someone gets punished for something the right notionally agrees they deserve to get punished for, and then right-wing intellectuals decide to rush to abstraction to remedy the optics, mine the event for apocalyptic ideation and enforce internal partisan-tribal discipline.
You can't prove that the takes are wrong per se because it's impossible to prove a negative.
