This is my third time attending the certification of electoral votes in Tennessee. All three times, all 11 votes went to Trump. Regardless of how one voted, it is important to show and claim once’s civic space.

Capped the week by moderating a conversation tonight with Vanderbilt Professor Robert Talisse about his new book “Civic Solitude.” It is an invitation to reflection beyond “doing” the work of democracy. It is important to do it, but also to take time to think about why we are doing it.

Univ. of TN Health Science Center in Memphis invited me to speak to hundreds of medical students on Nov. 20. Topic: "How to Develop a Citizenship Mindset: Evolution of Civility."
This speech was organized before the election, but I was so pleased with the students' curiosity, questions and ideas.
