Try the Century Trilogy series by Ken Follett, definitely has that sweeping, epic feel, follows multiple families through the events of the 20th century.

The issue over there, at least for me, is the blue-check-first algorithm which ensures that anything at all non-MAGA in nature is met with a dogpile of jeering and vitriol. And as a physician, I see X's overwhelmingly anti-science bent as soul-crushing.

I definitely get what you're pointing out about setting ourselves up an echo chamber here but arguing that we should stay on X to provide a counterpoint or that we can somehow stave off the tidal wave of authoritarianism crashing all around us over there seems too little too late.
