Spooky Movie Month continues:

October 4: The Innocents (1961). Based on a gothic novella by Henry James, it’s a story about a woman hired to be a governess for two children in a manor house that has seen much tragedy. There are moments here that give me a chill even though I’ve seen it many times.

October 3: Lake Mungo (2008). Excellent haunted house movie, presented in a documentary style. There are moments in here that make you reassess everything you’ve seen so far, and that continues right up to the end. (Don’t skip the credits)

More spooky movies coming up…

More Spooky Movies for October:

October 2: Barbarian (2022). Same writer-director the October 1 entry. An Airbnb is double booked — the setup for a meet-cute? Not in the slightest. This movie takes a craaazy turn. You’ll see.

Stay tuned for more movies…

Spoooooky Moooovies for October Viewwwwing:

October 1: Weapons (2025). An entire classroom of children vanish from their homes in the middle of the night. It’s already spooky by the time the opening credits finish and it gets spookier from there.

Stay tuned for more recommendations…

This original Carter window advert is about to be placed on my wall. It’s in such good condition, it’s difficult to believe it was printed almost 100 years ago in 1927 #magic

Where I was at 2:30am: in the backyard, kneeling on the cold ground, trying to use my phone camera to take a photo of the eclipse through the eyepiece of a pair of binoculars. Just for kicks.

Bought this book-and-record combo at the corner store back in 1974. It’s an abbreviated version of Marvel’s Tomb of Dracula issues 19 & 20 with a 45rpm record that gives it a full radio drama production — actors, sound effects, music. I read and listened many times but kept it in pristine condition

Thrilled to know that these finger-puppet monsters have names. Knowlege is power. Also, I think my fave is Rodney. #archiemcphee

Heard on the airport PA system: “Someone has left a pair of glasses at the ticket counter. The glasses are black. They’re smudgy and smeary, but they are black. So please return to the ticket counter and identify your smudgy, smeary glasses.”

Seemed a tad judgy.

Postcard depicting Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 20th century. Purchased mainly for the caption that refers to my hometown not only as a “sanitary location” but also “The Naples of America,” as if everyone everywhere agrees “This place is just like Naples, Italy. But in America.” #Milwaukee
