Now this is cool: a "House of Hades" piece of street art, right at South Station! These are made from colored linoleum pieces and asphalt sealer; they appear solid black at first until the car tires rub away enough of the sealer to reveal the piece. City erosion becomes art. #HouseofHades #Boston

Spotted this in a local free things Facebook group. My delight at seeing the arrows is perfectly balanced by my disgust at the text. Why is the yellow axis labeled with green text? Why is the red axis text colored yellow, and why doesn't it use a double quote? Why is the green axis label BLUE??

Blue sky post that reads, "the hong kong protestors used the phrase "do not split" to mean that the radical protest and peaceful protest arms of the movement should refuse to criticize each other." Yet if the movement is leaderless and anarchic, it isn't chaotic. It has guiding principles that allow participants to self-regulate even as the movement constantly reinvents itself. Among those principles is “不割席”(“do not split"). Protesters use the expression to say that no one in the movement should condemn or obstruct the actions of fellow protesters they disagree with. People who oppose a given action should sit it out, but not try to prevent it. The use of force, in particular, is a divisive issue. Some insist on the necessity of keeping the protests peaceful, so that they will seem morally legitimate and may gain sympathy from the broader public. Others - especially younger protesters or protesters who consider that the lengthy sit-ins of the Umbrella Movement failed - believe that some measure of force has become necessary; otherwise, the government will simply ignore them. The "do not split" idea acts as a bridge between these two factions by promoting mutual respect for diverging views within the protest movement. Not

Here are some delightful reptiles (newts and otherwise) I spotted last summer in Pawtuckaway State Park, NH.
A toad, probably a fowlers toad or American toad I think? Hanging out at the base of a tree trunk. A milk snake, this guy was moving fast so I only was able to photograph the head but it was *big*. A red-spotted newt, native to southern and central NH, on a forest floor surrounded by leaf litter and moss. I lost track of how many I saw, there were easily a hundred just hanging out along the trail.

And this is why Farscape is my favorite SF series. The characters are so bonkers yet so believable in their setting.

for the record, if you have never watched Farscape: it is a show about an American astronaut who gets stranded in space with a bunch of aliens. this description is technically accurate but tells you nothing about the actual experience of watching the show. if it helps any, please consider that the main characters are, in no particular order: a jock who's very good at math and surprisingly good at feelings an ex-space cop who combines the fighting-for-her- life aptitude of Ellen Ripley with the understanding- her-own-emotions aptitude of Seven of Nine Space Javert a big weird puppet friend with like 12 arms. you will want to hug him.
