Another completely unexpected moth in the trap a couple of nights ago: V-moth! Red listed: Endangered. We are lucky, in Norfolk, to get a few records a year #norfolkmoths #teammoth

The Alchemist
My 600th Norfolk macro moth
Many, many thanks to Craig for the share and organisation
#teammoth #norfolkmoths
I say 600th, one of those is a still unidentified adventive, so I suppose it’s officially 599! I wonder what my official 600th will be?!

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction!

A nice irony! Not at home but the 1st I’ve been involved in trapping!

Glyphipterix forsterella - 2nd for Norfolk! Netted during the day, last week, at Lolly Moor NWT
It took a while before Marcus was able to get pictures good enough to publish, so many thanks to him! #norfolkmoths #teammoth

Day flying (primarily Breckland) specialities - one of which has come to light in my garden. Speckled Yellow (I still end up calling this Speckled Wood, occasionally!), Clouded Buff, Small Yellow Underwing (a macro smaller than the micro, Mint Moth!) & Burnet Companion #norfolkmoths #teammoth

As a Norfolk Moth-er, I find it amazing to think that this beauty is a garden moth, for some people #jealous #norfolkmoths

Two of my favourite day flying micros: Alabonia geoffrella and Nemophora degeerella, both found today at Sparham Pools NWT #norfolkmoths #teammoth My iPhone pics do not do either of them justice!

An early Spectacle was my 100th moth (only adults) in Norfolk, this year. A stunning Water Carpet was my 65th garden moth (again, only adults) of the year. A bonus NFY Herald was also trapped. Have a good (but not tooo good) week, everyone! #norfolkmoths #teammoth Mullein from yday

A fortunate rescue. This male Emperor Moth eventually recovered and flew off without any issues #teammoth

From the same hide was this amazing breeding plumaged Little Egret - just look at those lores! #norfolkbirding

I was hoping to get pics of Spoonbills, the other day, at Cley. Unfortunately, I kept on arriving just too late for them feeding, so had to be content with a flyby … and what a flyby it was #norfolkbirding

Also at Holme we’re a stunning male White Wagtail, an immaculate male Stonechat, Chiffchaffs and a pair of distant Garganey #norfolkbirding

Imm male Black Redstart at Holme NOA, last week. A lovely subtle bird and great to hear it calling and singing (I’m desperately trying not to say, ‘Shame it wasn’t an adult’!) #norfolkbirding

Emperor Moth to my long-suffering lure (that’s even been soaked on a couple of occasions) in the garden. I don’t try and net, anymore (I have enough posed shots over the years) but prefer to have fun try to get an ‘action shot’. Still trying! #norfolkmoths #teammoth VC28

The cloud made getting a pic of the solar eclipse rather tricky but did give some amazing effects!

The Cley Glossy Ibis gave a nice flyby from the West Bank, this morning 🌅 #norfolkbirding

There’s been an obvious emergence of Double-striped Pugs around my garden, tonight, already producing a garden high of 9 (wonder how many more there wi be?) They’re everywhere, except in the traps! Some great photo opps on a variety of backgrounds - all very fresh! #norfolkmoths #teammoth VC28

‘Accidentally’ did two consecutive night sessions in the Brecks! Fantastic to record the continued presence of Barred Tooth-striped in the area. Early Tooth-striped was a bonus but ‘moth-of-night’, for me, was Amphisbatis incongruella (Obscure Concealer - an accurate tautology!) #norfolkmoths
March 23, 2025 at 2:24 PM
Yellow Horned (not annual here, anymore), Early Thorn (settled high up on the wall) and Double-striped Pug (hiding on the sheet behind the MV) all NFYg, last night. Also, 8 Pammena giganteana to MOL lure (plus two others flying around and one in the MV overnight) #norfolkmoths #teammoth

When asked if I would like to see a captive bred Oleander Hawkmoth, it didn’t take long for me to jump at the opportunity! The pupa were raised for educational purposes and emerged at the perfect time an event. What a moth! Now to find a wild one! #teammoth #captivebred
March 18, 2025 at 7:58 PM
A much improved moth haul, last night, with 44 of 12 species. Diurnea fagella was NFY and Engrailed NFYg. Grey Shoulder-knot and Early Grey were nice comparisons. #norfolkmoths #teammoth VC28

Just as interesting was (my first) female Dotted Border. It was found near the top of a concrete post! Had it crawled up or fallen down?!?
March 4, 2025 at 5:00 PM
It felt a little bit like the moths had stopped waiting and decided to come on their own accord, despite there being very little change in the temps! 2 Oak Beauty and 2 Common Quaker, along with Acleris cristana all NFY. VC28 #norfolknoths #teammoth
