The driveway wound slowly up to the front of the old home, making a semi-circular curve around carefully trimmed shrubbery. Everything had an air of antiquity, overlain with hints of recent change. Like a very old porcelain mask that retained its original paint but had been expertly touched up. It wasn’t a disguise, exactly, but more like something was coming to life, dressed up for the first party in many years.

The new beginning of the novel... title still (tentatively) Coyne House.
One Marty had decided to drive to Coyne House alone. They could have had a driver. Dr. Danvers had offered to provide one, but when coming to a new place, the experience of the approach, the ambiance of that first vision, was very private. Marty saw and felt things in ways others either didn’t, or wouldn’t, and it wasn’t a thing that could be shared. Too often they’d allowed others to influence first impressions or attempt to shift their gift in directions that supported a pat theory, rather than the truth. Life was a complicated mess and had been since they’d been a child in rural North Carolina. Their parents had tried to understand. Their school, their classmates, and the church, had not. The post-pandemic rise of hateful, angry people weren’t keeping their feelings secret any longer. The government passed, repealed, and passed again laws designed to dehumanize anyone that didn’t fit their desired mold. Marty felt as if the concept of a mold was the most debilitating, frightening thing imaginable. Several molds would not be enough, because they were like masks, only masks hid things, and molds reshaped them, forced them into pre-conceived, safe forms, not protecting those trapped within, but shielding the world from their contents.

Stormy, a black and sort of bronze tabby with a white mustache, chin, feet and belly curled up on the top tier of the new tan cat tree, a little over 6' 2" in the air and very pleased with himself.

I am going to write a hurried and slightly unsatisfying sort of last bit of this novel that annoyingly passed 132k words because I need it done, and I don't believe what I write now will be (exactly) the ending when I revise. It has to end :) Here are five cats protecting our couch from JD Vance.
Five cats on our couch, which is covered with a padded quilt-like thing that keeps them from scratching the thing to bits. On top is DIdi - the long-haired Scottish fold Calico beauty. Along the couch fro left to right, Stormy, the gray and black tabby short-haired Persian with white legs and belly, Then Sir Thomas and Sam Francisco the creme and ginger long-haired rescue cats and Dewey, a tan and black tabby short-haired Persian who is tiny and made himself tinier by rolling into a ball. In the background you can see Pook Daddy the Chinchilla's cage.

A tall tumbler (you can vaguely see the etched figure of The Hulk on the front) - it has two large round ice cubes floating in a An apple, bourbon cocktail with a hint of Maple syrup and a splash of lemon to keep it from being too sweet. Passed 130k words, but the brakes are on and the wall is right in front of me...There is major work to be done. I need to amp up some of the darker parts, add in details to make the ending more powerful, and cut about 25,000 words (lol), but the end is in sight. #cat #writing #wip

Webby is pleased with the election results. He is still watching and will keep you posted. In fairness, he doesn't trust many humans, but he feels NYC is in good hands. That's an endorsement worth twenty old man Chucks.
