It's so sad and so ironic that while many in politics are falsely criticizing scientists for creating deadly viruses, a bigger safety issue for folks at CDC and NIH and other labs is getting shot at for choosing careers that save lives with vaccines and medicines. dmm
The CDC attack is a wake up call. Not just about security, but about truth. About restoring shared reality to our discourse. About valuing our health and public health workforce. About standing with the people who protect us. About the simple principle that should guide all systems:

Safety first.

Indeed, and sadly, this is just the latest example of our long running homegrown American anti-vaccine neurosis. It goes back to 1720 (78 years before the fist vaccine was used for the good of public health), when Boston smallpox inoculators were hunted down by murderous mobs. Sound familiar?
mRNA vaccines have already saved millions of lives from Covid and they have the potential to save millions more from other diseases. Suspending research on this modern medical miracle will mean more suffering and more preventable death.

How ironic that sevral decades after US polio epidemics, parents are now questioning the same sorts of childhood vaccines that they once prayed for. Back then we all lived in a climate of terror as summers approached, haunted by the ubiquitous posters of kids in iron lungs and leg braces. dmm
