As kids growing up in the US South in the 1960s, part of our back-to-school ritual every August was de-worming after spending the summer playing in fields covered in cow shit, picking food off the vine and eating it, and raw milk at meals. All very Norman Rockwell, yeah, but ... parasites.

I did that yesterday, in conversation with someone. I stood there struggling to describe the function of the machine in question, and the person I was talking to looked at me for a moment, then said, "You mean 'teakettle'?" The conversation didn't thrive after that.
