Somewhat tangentially related, @research4action.bsky.social found that the decline in the number and share of Black teachers in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County has exceeded the decline in the Black population overall.

www.inquirer.com/education/ph... I'm late to this, but a bit confused. PDE reports SDP enrollment of 117,985 in 23-24, so Supt's 24-25 numbers represent a (very small) decline. Also, charter enrollment decline even more significant. Total county enrollment would be down -2,292. Here's prior 20 years

Seems a good time—as Mayor Parker and PHL city council consider giving tax breaks & permission to build a $1.5 billion arena in the middle of downtown to a multi-billion-dollar sports franchise—to sit with the mind-boggling disparities in PHL students’ access to middle & high school sports.
