The latest development is protesting about the new poles which will carry the restriction signs. Photos have been posted to show the visual damage caused by the poles to the streetscape. On a street always lined with cars.

People in our small town protested loudly about a £400K centre improvement plan because it would mean losing 40 car parking spaces. Time ran out, and the money went elsewhere. In effect, keeping the parking spaces cost the town £10K each. Now the people are protesting about new parking charges.

On the roads, it's well known that our primitive vision, unless used with particular care, leads us to see what we expect to see. (This is also exploited by magicians.) Perhaps something similar can happen with hurried "reading" of text?

Nuclear stations need engineering skills throughout the whole lifecycle; design, commissioning, operation, maintenance and decommissioning. The skills needed overlap heavily with those in oil and gas.

Storage heaters have become a whole lot smarter, too. Heat stored at overnight tariff can be released under computer control to maintain a chosen time/ temperature program, with centralised controllers allowing remote control via apps. Not as cheap as gas, but a more realistic option for some.

No drivers should have a financial incentive to disregard speed limits. Dashcams/black boxes could help manage that risk.
