On the other hand, Nate Silver's tracker shows him at only -7.9, higher than his firm term and roughly on par with Bill Clinton and Joe Biden at this point. High enough and stable enough that disapproval seems unlikely to slow him down.

It's not a numbers game. It's not a contest. Both sides have this problem to some degree. Both sides need to stop lying to themselves about it and come down on whoever on their side is guilty of doing it, justifying it, or ignoring it.

He was a political activist who was killed in front of a huge crowd at a political rally. That makes it political violence regardless of the motive.
