Physicist. Cyborg. Storyteller.
My name is Davide De Biasio. I have a PhD in theoretical physics, a bunch of robotic implants and a keen interest in stories. I live my life as a science communicator.

How many parallel worlds are there out there?
How many copies of you, living almost identical lives, are reading these very lines?
How can we answer such questions?

I'm about to return from Japan, where I’ve been since September. For forty-four days I walked the 88 temples pilgrimage of Shikoku. It was a magical adventure, full of incense, mountains, coastlines, mouth-watering noodles, and stories of wonderful people.

Now, however, it's time to get serious.

Anyway, the choice I made at the end of my PhD was crystal clear: to devote myself full-time to science communication, telling stories about knowledge and love, conundrums and humans. Thus, I spent my last year completing a Science Communication MSc at UCL.

I was lucky enough to join a lot of other wonderful projects! What I love the most, though, are public lectures and live monologues. I performed in Italian, German, and British theatres, as well as schools, conferences, and pubs. Recently, I blabbed about string theory at the Royal Institution.

I produced a podcast for Audible with friend and actor Roberto Mercadini. We imagined three bizarre astronauts, Heraclitus, Newton, and Einstein, exploring twelve paradoxical planet. Each, in addition to drawing heavily from literature, metaphorically embodied a key concept in modern physics.

Meanwhile, I dabbled in science communication. Gradually, what was a hobby turned into a second job. Then, in a second and a half job. In 2019 I launched the Italian YouTube channel "Spazi Attorcigliati", which was later joined by that of the International Society for Quantum Gravity.

These are big words -I am well aware- but the substance is not too complex. We took some space-times, began to warp them meaningfully, and investigated when this violated the tenets of string theory. From there on, we enriched and decorated, pushed and tested this core idea.

Working at the Max Planck Institute for Physics was a privilege and an honor I will always hold close to my heart. With Prof. Dieter Lüst, the outstanding supervisor who guided me through those years, I explored some applications of geometric flows to quantum gravity phenomenology.

I lived in Munich between 2018 and 2023, learning significantly less German than dignity would have dictated. On the upside, I took home an MSc in mathematics and theoretical physics and a PhD in string theory.

Given the recent wave of new users, I think it's time to introduce myself officially!

I’m Davide, born and raised in a regular nine-pointed Venetian fortress - almost on the border between Italy and Slovenia. Hence, perhaps, I got so hooked on geometry.
