My one and only time in the e numbers, was thrilling, but still so far off ante 16

34/Last/Stay away! Silent Hill: The Short Message is very bad, from hamfisted handling of sensative subjects to frustrating and tedious gameplay. Makes me wary for the future of the series, fortunately SH2 remake turned out well

33/ Monument Valley 2 is a pretty game but its puzzles are incredibly straight forward and felt like going through the motions rather than actually solving anything

32/ Vernal Edge is a nice enough little package, but its map/exploration leaves a lot to be desired and quite often was unclear what I was supposed to be doing

31/ I think that TCG Pocket's streamlining of the game for mobile play has fundamentally broken it and don't see them recovering. The single player challengers are fun to build decks to engage with but I bounced out of PvP after the first event and constantly being faced with the exact same decks

30/ Played all of Pepper Grinder in one 4 hour session, was a nice palette cleanser between big games I was playing at the time, worth a go but didn't rock my world

29/ I like Shadows of Rose narratively quite a lot, the gameplay has some segments where I appreciate what they were going for but sometimes implemented in a way that got a bit frustrating, going through it it did remind me how much I liked Village though

28/ Even 9 years removed from Arkham Knight, Batman Arkham Origins feels very much like more of the same, so understand the fairly lukewarm reception it had on release. The end felt like it came abruptly but also I was thankful for it to be over as I was getting a bit bored

27/ Mummy Demastered is far better than it has any right to be seeing as its a tie game in for a rubbish movie, that said its a competent Metroidvania but doesn't do anything particularly new or unique

26/ Advance Wars 1+2 are perfectly fine, they show their age a bit as other games have come along and done the same thing but better. Became an exercise bike game for me, but is perfect for that

25/ I can see why people like the Yakuza games, the characters in Like a Dragon definitely had a charm to them, but the game felt like quantity over quality, and an RPG where you fail if the main character gets KOd coupled with enemies that target him with insta kills is a red flag for me

24/ Midnight Suns is a very odd game, I came to enjoy the combat, but felt it didn't evolve enough over the course of the game. The friend dates you have with the Marvel characters is very silly but has its charm. Magik is your key to victory

23/ Grapple Dogs is a fun platformer that does exactly what it intends to and doesn't outstay its welcome. Not massively revolutionary, but a good time
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
22/ Paper Mario the Thousand Year door is overated. There I said it. Its still a lot of fun, but its 20 years in the wilderness had built up a reputation it couldn't possibly hope to live up to. Maybe it suffered because I played Bug Fables first, but I preferred that game more

21/ Man I seemed to play a lot of rogue-lites this year, tho I wasnt expecting Everspace to be one. I love Space combat simulators and they have fallen out of favour so I'll take what I can get, I do have the itch to play the sequel now which as far as I know doesn't have rogue elements
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
20/ Wargroove 2 has lost a little charm of the original, I think I miss the little side missions, but I respect the way it tries to tell its story and I still prefer it over Advance Wars
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
19/ I enjoyed Jedi Survivor a lot in the moment, story was a little weak (Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal) and honestly don't recall a huge amount about specifics, but there was a character called Cleland Cudds who swings around like Spidey, so extra points there

18/ Shovel Knight Dig is Shovel Knight, which I adore, but rogue-lite... which I feel I've made my feelings about clear. Still fun and very fortunately I managed to beat the final boss on my first run in with them, but bounced as soon as I saw the credits

17/ Neon White has its mechanics down, its very tight to play, pretty easy to pick up fun to master
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
16/ Shogun Showdown feels quite similar to Cobalt Core but has the rogue-lite RNG curse, I feel I could've finished the final run half a dozen tries earlier if the dice had fallen in my favour
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
15/ Tinykin is a great exploration platformer, never particularly taxing but always a joy to play. Not a pikmin-like like I initially assumed, which is good as I've never managed to get into that series
December 31, 2024 at 6:28 PM
14/ Viewfinder is a fun puzzle game with a unique gameplay hook, I got similar vibes from it as I did from Maquette, which I seemed to enjoy a lot more than other people
