The train knife attack was clearly a terrible event, but billions spent on increasing train security would reduce deaths by around zero and injuries by not very many more. There are better ways to spend the money than knee-jerk reactions to extraordinarily rare events.

Nice to see some research progress on Bile Acid Malabsorption (you might not know what that is, but there's a 1% chance you've got it)

Recently talking to someone involved with improving NHS "efficiency" in UK. Asked how it is measured. They gave the example of operations per surgeon. My suggestion of *successful* operations per surgeon was apparently novel. I wish people would distinguish between process and result.

The UK survived this, more or less, in 1987. Someone needs to do an updated Trump/Musk version, and let's hope we all survive this iteration. www.facebook.com/watch/?v=641...

Surely with the scorched earth policy Trump is wielding at a lot of important US science, the UK (in particular, being Anglophone) & Europe should be on the biggest scientific talent recruitment drive in centuries? Are we? If not, why not? The 30s analogy people are missing is the flight of talent

Heretic is an engaging if somewhat gruesome film. Hugh Grant is *so* much better as a bad guy than he ever was in his youthful roles.

Is it possible to add automation to bsky to autoblock any "follower" with onlyfans mentioned anywhere in their profile?

If anyone is in Yorkshire and has an interest in history of science, this is a most excellent way to spend a few hours. The all-but-4 5* TripAdvisor reviews don't lie, it's really engaging and informative.

It tips fairly quickly from looking at Discover and thinking "is that it" to no longer being able to keep up with your following feed, doesn't it?
November 29, 2024 at 10:13 PM
Others have said it, but *please* @bsky.app can you make mouse-back from a zoomed image window just close the zoomed window, not take you back to what you were doing before bsky?

Thanks.

Any #ATproto experts able to say whether I've found a bug, a gap in the typescript library, or have just missed the point?

I was bored by this on X/Twitter, guess I shouldn't be surprised it's now on bsky. Sign of the platform's success I guess. Not sure if I've just had my first onlyfans performer fishing for business, or someone with even more ulterior motives nicking their photo and fishing for something else...

I've been on Twitter for ages and BSky for a bit. I have only today discovered that scroll up gets you from a comment notification to what it was commenting on. Did I miss something telling me this was a thing? There's UI suggestion of it is there? :(

@fesshole.bsky.social is there a "25% feed" which spams less? I can't find a way of balancing your input against the rest of my feed. If I can't reduce it, I'll need to unfollow you, sorry.

Nobody (except code reviewer) reads your code today when it works and everyone knows what it's doing . They need to read it when it doesn't work, you're not around, nobody knows what it's for. Write your code now for future person. Hope others do too, for when you're that future person.

How come accounts I'm following also show up in discover? Feels spammy seeing stuff twice
