My discipline, sociology, is in severe crisis. Undergraduate completions have declined in absolute terms since 2010 and in relative terms since 2005. My department had 150 majors in 2010. Today we have 19. What is most concerning is that our leaders don’t seem concerned.

Understanding rural in Saskatchewan is partly about population density. This relates to distances to service (health care, schools etc). In #skpoli the density ranges significantly. I came across this pop density map published by Pronghorn. #Rurality. #RuralSociology.

Studying group cohesion & trust makes great prep for careers in business & management! There are sociologists who work for top tech companies!

I *love* seeing work on this important issue, but I read this & wondered: what clear career skills do we leave out to talk about “critical thinking” first?
With fewer undergraduates choosing sociology, many professors may seek new ways to attract students. This ASA page offers valuable resources to help students explore career opportunities available with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
