Bligh was no more overbearing than most other captains at the time. Naval discipline was always very tight (the movie Master and Commander portrays this well). He was also a very good seaman. Bligh navigated an open launch with 18 loyalists over 3,500 nautical miles to safety in Timor, Indonesia.
