Nottingham novelist. Poetry reader. Music nerd. Movie lover. From October 25-March 26, I'm publishing 'Greeneland' a serial novel set 100 years ago, covering Graham Greene's 4 months in Nottingham davidbelbin.substack.com. A dog, a job, a woman & a church.
Not read Spring but agree re Turbulence and liked All That Man Is more than Flesh (which is good but a fairly massive downer).

A song written by millionaires for millionaires, dopey drivel which perfectly suits that context. Also, It Started With a Kiss is killer, I'll brook no argument on that!

Saw Cale for the first time this year (with two of my oldest friends, each of whom had seen him umpteen times). Never been a huge fan but, yeah, he was amazingly good. Also seen Bob Dylan five times in his 80s, performing in the best form since his 40s. Gives one hope, doesn't it?

Good stuff. I read it in a hotel by a lake, which helped, obvs. Autocorrect Amy is always worth a read too.

HdL is as good a place to start as Amy, went with that then chronologically. Currently 8 in and having a pause. What a writer.

One of my many sad losses due to Covid was that I had great tickets to see the Isley Brothers in Nottingham. The show was rescheduled twice then cancelled because they’d aged out. A wonderful, wonderful band.

Finished it a few weeks ago. Never read the manga but boy, a seriously good, compellingly bleak series. Recommendations of anything in the same league appreciated. I’ve nearly finished Samurai Gourmet and need my next Japanese fix.

You been doing today's spelling bee by any chance?

You poor sod. As I left a screening of this in a multiplex, the 80ish woman who was the only other person there (spoiler alert) started talking to me about how close she'd come to mercy killing her husband. We had a moment. One of his best, I think, but never want to see it again.

First one my family bought, too, after we moved to Merseyside in 1963. Still have the slightly warped stereo copy (warp gives Mr Moonlight an extra warbly effect). Sounds good in the mono box set, even if it is still their worst non-soundtrack album.

Happy to use my imagination and throw a bonus to Musical youth, thus keeping both alive.

For me it was 'That's the bloke who's always hanging out at Selectadisc's Singles shop on Market St'. Asphalt Ribbons days.

Has to use my bonus for The Crown (just in case) while giving my main to the Bhundu boys, who put on the most joyous show I’ve ever danced through at the Old Vic, Nottingham circa 1985. Tragically, AIDS killed five of their members. RIP.

Used to be on early trips to the States I picked up those massive anthologies, which I still have and love.

I cancelled through the App Store but it's not run out yet. Not been given home classic offer.
